In 1974, at age seventeen, Heidi Thompson moved from Vernon to Europe to study art. After earning a 4-year photography degree from the University of Design Zurich she moved to Nürnberg where she worked as an apprentice for the German painter Oskar Kollar. Heidi was later accepted into the Akademie der Bildene Künste Nürnberg where she studied painting and drawing for one year. Seeking a more traditional education, in 1981 she travelled to Budapest where she studied painting at the Hungarian University of Art. In 1982, Heidi returned to Vernon, married guitar-maker Edward Thompson and had one daughter and worked as a book publisher, photographer and painter. 2001, she earned her BFA and BC Teaching Certificate and taught art in high schools. In 2024 Heidi opened her art gallery where her works alongside notable artists Bryan Ryley, David Alexander, David Powter and Deborah Wilson are on display. Presently, Heidi paints full-time exhibiting and selling her work in Europe, Canada and the USA.
