Monique Jansen

Monique Jansen is an artist inspired by the beauty surrounding her. When living in The Netherlands that was the rainy weather, which creates beautiful reflections and therefore abstraction. Once she moved to the Okanagan she couldn’t help but be stunned by the amazing nature. So in the last few years her paintings have gradually become abstractions of the landscape. With that, her colour palette changed from the dark greys and blues in The Netherlands to the sunny brighter colours of the Okanagan.

She works with acrylics, oil crayons and oil paint on canvas and with encaustic medium on board. In her (encaustic) paintings she creates many layers to build up texture and then uses pottery tools to scrape back and reveal. She doesn’t stop until the painting expresses what she feels.

Monique has exhibited in Europe and in BC, and her works are held in private collections around the world.
