Bob Kingsmill

”I have had friends who, in moments of litigious blasphemy, have called me an artist… yet others have called me a craftsman. It has represented a debate I’ve heard forever and cannot find myself caring. I do feel that some of my work has been worthy… whether it be functional or otherwise. If some pieces allow reflections on the joys and absurdities of the life we all experience then something has passed through me that is universal. If something I’ve constructed emits reflection, laughter or squeals of primitive delight I feel sustained. I sit presently having worked with clay for nearly 60 years — it moved more rapidly than anticipated — and ideas keep coming. I still get great joy in the genius displayed by those in the pottery community and remain grateful to all those who presented examples of how to live a good life in or on the fringes of the arts… fully aware that none of us work alone and that many invisible hands have helped us get to this particular moment.”
